Physical Culture and Sport

Some 51 physical culture clubs and 157 sports facilities function in the region. Every year the local authorities hold a regional show-contest for the best physical culture and recreational techniques used in educational establishments and among draftees and young people of the preinduction age. Sports clubs sum up results of all-the-year-around sports and athletics meetings, during which athletes compete in ten sports. The Verkhnedvinsk state children’s and youth sports school is a structural unit of the regional department of physical culture, sport and tourism.

Three sections function at the children’s and youth sports school: track and field athletics, volleyball and football.

The sports club Dvina opened in 2005. There are all necessary conditions in the club to go in for table tennis, bodybuilding, aerobics, draughts and chess. Sportsmen and regional sports teams successfully take part in the oblast, republican and international competitions. Hockey team Dvina is a permanent prize-winner of the oblast competitions, a three-time champion and a winner of the republican competitions “Gold Puck” for the Prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus.
