The leadership of the Vitebsk District sent congratulations on the 640th anniversary of the city of Vitebsk

Dear residents and guests of Vitebsk!

We sincerely congratulate you on the 640th anniversary of our city!

This jubilee is a significant reason to recall the history of the ancient city, relate the past to the present, evaluate achievements, and look into the future.

From its first mention in 1386 to the present day, Vitebsk has undergone a difficult and eventful path, overcoming trials and consistently moving forward. Located at the crossroads of major roads, on the famous route "from the Varangians to the Greeks," the city has repeatedly become the scene of fierce battles, but has never surrendered to its enemies. Our region became a true example of courage and resilience during the struggle against the German-fascist invaders. The Great Patriotic War took the lives of 20,000 residents of the district, more than 5,000 died on the fronts and in partisan detachments, and 437 settlements were burned by the executioners. But the Vitebsk residents fought selflessly against the enemy and defended their land.

It took more than one decade to revive the city and villages from the ashes. Through hard work, the residents of the Dvina region restored the national economy and rebuilt the city streets. We managed to create a new look for the city with modern production, decent infrastructure, comfortable housing, and attractive landscaping objects. The Vitebsk trade brands "Yan-Syrodely" and "Invet" are well known far beyond the district, as is the products of other enterprises and organizations. The name of our city is increasingly mentioned among the leaders in various fields of activity: professional skills competitions, education, culture, and sports. We are proud that our Vitebsk is distinguished by cleanliness and coziness, attracting tourists with its unique beauty.

The main wealth of the region is its people. Hardworking and wise, they remain the true masters of their land, initiators of good deeds, and creators of the modern history of their homeland. Each of us has the opportunity to demonstrate our love for our native corner through concrete actions.
