Vitebsk region farmers are harvesting winter barley

In these hot July days, farmers have plenty to worry about. The harvest, which was stored since autumn, has ripened. The bread growers of JSC "Sokolovshchina" are finishing the harvesting of winter barley, which ripens earlier than other crops. 350 tons of the first bread have been threshed with an average yield of 28 centners per hectare.

Mostly, the farm copes with its own resources. However, the help from the supervisors – the mechanized brigade of the cheese and butter factory – is also welcome. For instance, the harvesting of winter barley on a powerful New Holland combine harvester is carried out by the mechanized brigade operator Alexander Dorozhko. The grain of the new harvest is transported by Vladimir Zaletilo. This team completed the work in six days, threshing 125 hectares.

Work is also bustling at the grain yard. In two shifts, grain operators SZH-30 Mikhail Beloded and Alexander Bykov, along with young assistants Kirill Redkov and Ivan Murashko, are processing the grain.
The next stage is the harvesting of winter rapeseed on 180 hectares. This will begin already this week. In total, the winter crops cover more than 700 hectares, and an equal area is occupied by spring crops – barley, including brewing barley, oats, rapeseed, and wheat. It is necessary to deliver 160 tons of rapeseed, 180 tons of brewing barley, and 400 tons of food-grade wheat as part of the state order.

They will engage in harvesting on a broad front. The combine operators Andrei Smirnov, Pavel Kovshel, Nikolai Novikov, Sergey Sobolevsky, Nikolai Bembel, and Maris Lyadzhiev will thresh grain at the Threshing and Cleaning Complex No. 12 (KZS-12). Vladimir Zaletilo, Eduard Gavrilov, and Roman Valitsky will drive MAZ trucks, ensuring uninterrupted transportation of grain from the fields. The farm has two grain drying complexes ready to receive the harvest.
– Despite the drought, the prospects for the harvest are not bad, – notes the director of the agricultural enterprise, Vladimir Korsun. – Of course, like everyone else, we expected more. We hope that the rains will improve the situation and the grain will still fill out. After all, so much effort and resources have been invested in it! Necessary care operations have been carried out – feeding and chemical weeding – and all stages of agrotechnology have been observed. The chief agronomist, Alexander Efimov, closely monitors this.
Currently, the efforts of the agrarians are directed not only towards harvesting but also towards the preparation of grass feed from the second cut of grass. With the first cut, 53% of the required silage has been prepared, which amounts to 5,700 tons of silage and grain silage. They are counting on silage: 480 hectares of corn have been sown, and it is currently gaining strength.
Agrarians do not lose hope of obtaining a harvest and earning a good price for it. Therefore, they approach their work with maximum responsibility.
