Alexander Lukashenko: Belarusians should be an example of how to cherish their past and preserve peace

One should learn from the example of Belarusians how to value their past and preserve peace. This was stated by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on September 2, answering questions during the event "Open Microphone with the President" with students of higher education institutions in the Vitebsk region, as reported by a correspondent of BELTA.

During the communication with the head of state, students also raised the issue of the importance of preserving historical memory, emphasizing the need to combat the resurgence of the harmful fascist ideology. "What can we do in our country, what projects to implement or events to organize, not only to prevent the repetition of such tragic events but also to promote the unity of the peoples affected by the war for a common goal - the preservation of peace?" - they asked the President.

"Without unnecessary modesty, I will say that no other nation can compare with what Belarus and Belarusians are doing. In my opinion, we have already done so much that it seems there is no need to do more. One should learn from our example how to be committed to this, how to value all of this," - Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.

The head of state recalled how in the mid-1990s in Belarus, there were plans to demolish monuments and rename streets, but he managed to stop these trends.

"We need to learn how to value our past. We must follow this path. It always happens the same way with us: everything is fine, everything is great, we lower our hands, and we don't need to do anything – it will come on its own. And we will either regress somewhere or collapse. Therefore, we must not forget this. And when I visit Khatyn and Victory Square, I always tell people: 'Come to the monuments and bring your children here.' As soon as we forget the way to the monuments, all of this will happen again," the President pointed out.
