HC Vitebsk became the owners of the Saley Cup

The Salae Cup 2023 draw has concluded in Salihorsk, the second most significant club tournament in Belarusian hockey.

Hockey players from "Shakhter" and "Vitebsk" reached the final match of the national cup. During the group stage, which took place from August 2 to 13, the "miners" took first place in pool A, and in the semi-final match the day before, they defeated the capital's "Yunost" (3:2). Vitebsk players secured their participation in the trophy match thanks to their success in group B and subsequent victory over "Brest" in the semi-final (4:1).

The home ice hosts opened the scoring in the 18th minute of the final, with Bogdan Denisovich scoring for Salihorsk. In the second period, spectators also saw one more goal, but this time by the guests - Artur Gilmanov equalized the score. The fate of the cup was decided in the final 20-minute period: exactly at the midpoint of the third period, Artem Smirnov put the "bears" ahead, and the northerners maintained their advantage for the rest of the time. Thus, 2:1 and the second Salae Cup in the history of the club for "Vitebsk" - a year ago, Roman Yupatov's team also became the trophy holders, defeating "Gomel" in the final.

In the current tournament, the third place was taken by the hockey club "Brest," which earlier today defeated "Yunost" in the bronze medal match - 2:1. The new season of the Belarusian Extraliga starts on August 30, with the first day of the regular championship featuring matches between "Gomel" and "Vitebsk," "Lida" and "Mogilev," and "Metallurg" and "Neman".
